Ann Widdecombe to join Royal United Hospital line dancing fundraiser This is Bath -- Former Conservative minister Ann Widdecombe will be taking part in a charity line dancing event in Bath. Miss Widdecombe was born in Bath, and returns to the city whenever she can to support various local events. The former Home Office minister has carved out a career as a writer and TV presenter, and was a popular contender on BBC1's Strictly Come Dancing in 2010, where she appeared in ten episodes with her partner Anton Du Beke. Now the Forever Friends Appeal is capitalising on her dancing prowess with its own Strictly Line Dancing event on Saturday May 18, from 12noon to 6pm, in aid of its work at the Royal United Hospital. Event organiser and keep fit teacher Maureen Conroy said: "The Strictly Line Dancing afternoon is guaranteed to be a fun-packed event with our special guest, who has promised to join us and try out some line dances." National standard line dance choreographer and teacher Maggie Gallagher will be leading the dances. Mrs Conroy said: "The line dances will be for all abilities, and it will also enable those who have never tried this form of dance before to have a go. "It is a great form of exercise, keeping the brain and body active." Money raised will help the appeal's Cancer Care Campaign, which is contributing to the cost of a new cancer centre at the RUH. The appeal is charged with raising £5 million towards the cost of the building, which will put all cancer services at the hospital under one roof. Mrs Conroy said: "I have chosen Forever Friends because the new cancer centre will be beneficial to everyone in the Bath area." Community fundraiser at the appeal Zoe Tainton said: "We treat 2,000 new patients with cancer every year. "This is why it is so important to improve the services for those around us and our future generations. "We are very grateful for Maureen's support for the past 13 years. "We are also very honoured that Ann Widdecombe will be joining us at this event, and it is very kind of her to show her support." Already more than 100 tickets have been sold for the event, and places are filling up fast. Tickets are £10 in advance, and £12 on the door.
