Inspired by the latest series of MasterChef? Think you could do better?
WEEKEND has teamed up with Blade Group, Gloucestershire's leading independent motor group, to offer two lucky readers the chance to flex their culinary muscles and pit their signature dishes against Celebrity MasterChef winner Phil Vickery's in a live cook-off at Gloucestershire Motor Show.
The ex-Gloucester Rugby legend won the title in 2011 with a show-stopping menu including scallops with black pudding, pea shoots, crispy Parma ham and apple puree, followed by fillet of lamb with baby carrots, asparagus wrapped in mint and Parma ham and fondant potatoes.
All you have to do to be in with a chance of beating MasterChef Phil at his own game is to dream up an original recipe using ingredients produced in Gloucestershire.
Phil says: "I wanted to get involved to encourage people to have fun cooking and to use local produce.
"It is a challenge I'm taking seriously, but I want the food to be simple, have a bit of a laugh and get people to show me a bit of skill.
"I'm sure there will be plenty of people who will want to beat me."
A panel of judges will choose two finalists to go head-to-head with Phil, creating their dish in a live cook-off during the show at Highnam Court, on June 8 and 9.
All the equipment has been supplied by Target Catering Gloucester and includes a hob, pasta machine, griddle, grill, induction wok and deep fat fryer – but no oven – and you must be able to cook your dish in 40 minutes. The winner will not only be able to swap cooking tips with Phil but will be treated to dinner for two at The Daffodil in Cheltenham too.
