This is South Devon --
LIZI MACKEY, head of dance and performing arts at the Music Mill, Newton Abbot, has been presented with a dance teaching award from Strictly Come Dancing judge and former Royal Ballet prima ballerina Darcey Bussell.
Lizi headed to London to collect her award during the graduation ceremony held at St Mary's Church, Battersea, followed by a reception attended by many famous faces in the dance word held at the Royal Academy of Dance Headquarters in London.
Darcey, president of the Royal Academy of Dance, presented Lizi with the award after she completed the Professional Dancer's Teaching Diploma in 2012 with the top mark of Distinction.
Lizi said: "Darcey was lovely and during the ceremony spoke of her own experiences. When handing me the award she said 'You must feel very proud'.
"Studying for the qualification involved an intensive and thorough amount of study alongside international professional dancers and Royal Academy of Dance faculty. It has opened up wonderful opportunities for me to continue work at an international level in the field of dance".
Lizi was recently invited by the RAD to teach musical theatre and group dance at the RAD Exeter summer school.
She added: "It was a delight to work with such enthusiastic and talented students and transfer some of my skills and knowledge".
Students from across Devon are already benefiting from Lizi's expertise and have achieved 100 per cent pass rates in RAD ballet exams.
"In my classes based at the Music Mill I provide opportunities for youngsters and adults with an enthusiasm for dance to take part in a range of classes and events," she said.
