Strictly Come Dancing fiinal: It doesn't get much better than this, says Kevin Clifton's dad This is Grimsby --

*Each week, Kevin's dad Keith Clifton has been sharing the latest Strictly news and gossip with you in his column, exclusively written for the Grimsby Telegraph. Here is his final offering ...*

--------------------

YOUR life is defined by moments, moments of joy and sadness, of achievement and failure, moments that touch your heart and those that change the person you are and affect who you become.

Such moments can be yours alone or experienced by friends or family members. They can be for you or your sons or daughters. Sometimes these moments happen only once in a lifetime.

For us they are arriving like Christmas cards on your doorstep.

We've had some exciting moments in our own lives but we have never experienced anything like this. The media attention is all-consuming making us feel very humble and grateful but incredulous and mind blown at the same time.

As I've said several times, every parent is, or should be, proud of the achievements of their children and we are no exception, however, listing them for public consumption seems inordinately self-congratulatory and self-indulgent. Those people that know us will understand that Judy and I are nothing like that.

Kevin making the final of Strictly Come Dancing was one of those moments. It's his first year and his target of getting through the first elimination has moved inexorably onwards and upwards. He and Susanna have not been in the dance-off during this series.

They seem to have been connecting with the viewing public, showing their emotions and just trying their very best at all times. To get through to the final over Natalie was stunning. It proved that public support has been massive for them. We thank you all so very much and as the final is assessed by public votes only, can we now believe that winning is a possibility?

Kevin also, unbelievingly, is going in the Guinness Book Of Records for winning the Pro Challenge of doing the most "Drunken Sailors" (Backward Botafogos) in 30 seconds. A world record holder from Grimsby! Sounds very odd really but amazing. We'll take it anyway.

And then we come to Joanne. After 26 years of training and hard work she won the World Professional Ballroom Showdance Championship in Merano, Italy, this weekend. We were there with friends to watch her achieve the pinnacle of her dancing career.

The realisation of her and our dreams was emotionally mind blowing. It doesn't get much better than this. Even though I'm her dad I'm happy to say she was stunning and Judy and I cannot be prouder of her in what is her defining moment.

So, the Strictly final beckons. Make no mistake, Kevin and Susanna will give it their best shot, as they have done for the past three months.

The public support from this area has been monumental, but if they are to win they will need your votes for one last time.

Please make the effort to vote, sell your granny, rent out the back bedroom and save on the brussels sprouts for Christmas dinner but please vote like you've never done before.

The Glitter Ball could come to Grimsby.

This could be Grimsby's defining moment!
