As revealed in last week's Scunthorpe Telegraph, Tony, 69, will be one of the celebrity dancers in this year's series of the hit BBC1 show. The double major winner will be the first golfer to take part in Strictly, joining 14 other stars on the dancefloor. And he said he would be aiming to follow in the footsteps of last year's champion, Olympic gymnast Louis Smith, by winning the programme's glitterball trophy. Tony said: "I have come to play. "I hope the people of Scunthorpe watch it and support me""I don't want to let my partner down and it would mean a lot for her career if we could win it. "We will see what happens but I will give it my best shot." Tony grew up in Scunthorpe and was the most successful British golfer of his generation, winning the 1969 Open Championship and the 1970 US Open. And he said he hoped to have the support of his home town through the series. He said: "I hope the people of Scunthorpe watch it and support me.
